When tankless makes sense — and when it doesn’t
Good fit: households that run out of hot water; homes where the tank is eating floor space you want back; anyone planning to stay 10+ years; homes with gas already nearby and an exterior wall to vent through. Poor fit: a house you’re selling next year, an all-electric home (electric tankless rarely keeps up with our winter water temps), or a tight budget where a good 50-gallon tank does the job for half the money. We’ll tell you which you are.

Every install includes properly sized gas supply, stainless or PVC venting per the manufacturer, condensate handling on condensing units, isolation valves so it can actually be flushed later, and a written warranty on the labor.
Tankless service and repair
Already have one? We descale, diagnose error codes, replace flow sensors and igniters, and fix the “it takes forever to get hot” complaint (usually a recirculation problem, sometimes just the way it was piped). If someone else installed it without isolation valves, we’ll add them so it can be maintained.

Questions we get about tankless water heaters
Does tankless work in South Dakota winters?
Yes, if it’s sized for them. Incoming water in a Rapid City January can be near 40°F, so a unit has to raise it 80°+ degrees on the fly. That takes a 180,000–199,000 BTU unit for most homes — a small tankless that works fine in Texas will disappoint you here. We size to winter, not to the brochure.
Will I need a bigger gas line?
Often. A tankless unit pulls 4–5 times the gas of a tank heater while it’s running, and a lot of Rapid City homes have a ½" line to the old tank. Upsizing is normal and it’s in our quote, not a surprise afterward.
Does hard water ruin tankless heaters?
It will if it’s ignored. Scale collects in the heat exchanger and chokes the flow. Two fixes: an annual descaling flush (we do them), or a softener upstream, which most manufacturers want anyway to keep the warranty. Plan on one or both.
