What soft water does for a Rapid City home

  • Longer-lasting water heaters, tankless units, boilers, faucets, and pipes
  • Brighter dishes, softer laundry, better lather — and a lot less soap
  • Cleaner fixtures with no white crust on the shower door
  • Restored pressure and flow where scale had been closing pipes down

What we install and service

  • Whole-home ion-exchange softeners, sized to your household and hardness
  • Salt-free conditioners for homes that can’t or don’t want to use salt
  • Filtration add-ons for well water and taste/odor issues
  • Repairs on existing systems: resin, valves, timers, brine tanks

The best time to add a softener is when we’re already replacing a scaled water heater or doing a remodel — one visit, one bypass loop, and the new equipment starts its life protected. There’s $100 off a softener we install.

Questions we get about water softeners

How hard is Rapid City water?

Hard to very hard — the city draws from the Madison aquifer and Rapid Creek, both limestone-fed. Well water in Piedmont, Summerset, and Black Hawk is often harder still, sometimes with iron. It’s why water heaters here fail early and why tankless manufacturers want a softener upstream.

Salt softener or salt-free conditioner?

A salt (ion-exchange) softener actually removes the hardness — softer skin, no spots, real protection for the water heater. A salt-free conditioner changes how the minerals behave so they scale less, with no salt to carry and no wasted water; it doesn’t give you that “soft” feel. We’ll recommend based on your water and what you want out of it.

Where does it go?

On the main line after the meter and before the water heater, ideally with a bypass and a floor drain nearby. Most Rapid City basements have a good spot; we’ll confirm on site.

Do you service softeners you didn’t install?

Yes — resin replacement, valve rebuilds, and troubleshooting on most brands.
